About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Nags Head, North Carolina, Blue Moon Beach Grill is a vibrant American restaurant and seafood haven that promises a memorable dining experience for locals and visitors alike. This beloved bar & grill is celebrated for its lively atmosphere that perfectly balances the buzz of a beachside spot with the warmth of a welcoming local favorite. Whether you're settling in at the buzzing bar or enjoying a relaxed meal inside, Blue Moon Beach Grill offers a sensory feast that keeps guests coming back again and again.

Blue Moon Beach Grill’s menu shines with coastal-inspired American classics elevated by fresh, high-quality ingredients and bold flavors. Among the standout dishes, the Shrimp and Grits offers a rich, creamy delight that perfectly marries tender shrimp with velvety grits. The Bouillabaisse transports you to a coastal French fishing village with a fragrant, savory seafood stew that’s both comforting and luxurious. For a fun twist on a classic, the Mahi Mahi BLT layers pepper-dusted, seared mahi mahi with crisp bacon and fresh greens, all brought together by a signature jalapeño remoulade that adds a subtle kick.

Seafood lovers will find themselves spoiled for choice, with succulent offerings like the Oysters Rockefeller boasting fresh oysters crowned with breadcrumbs, cheese, and a luscious sauce, or the Blackened Crab Cakes with Fries delivering a delicate blend of crab meat and bold spices fried to perfection. The Seared Sea Scallops are another must-try, boasting a caramelized crust that gives way to a tender, buttery center.

Blue Moon doesn’t forget about those who enjoy lighter fare or hearty sandwiches, with options like the crisp Caesar Salad, flavorful Fish Tacos available at lunch, and the indulgent Philly Cheese Steak. Kids are also well taken care of with a dedicated menu that includes grilled chicken breast, classic grilled cheese sandwiches, and crispy chicken tenders, making it a great spot for family dining.

The starters set the tone delightfully—imagine Prince Edward Island mussels gently simmered in a white wine lemon butter broth, mingling with the smoky crunch of applewood bacon and a hint of bleu cheese, or the fried calamari that arrives golden and crispy, resting atop a tangy white wine and cherry pepper lemon butter sauce that lingers on the palate with just the right balance of zest and richness.

Guests often rave about the vibrant bar scene where craft margaritas and other cocktail favorites flow freely, the perfect companion to a lively yet intimate dining experience. It's clear from the feedback that while Blue Moon Beach Grill sees its fair share of bustling crowds—especially on weekends—the friendly and efficient service, particularly from standout staff like bartender Alex and server Jamie, smooths the way for a pleasant outing.

Customer reviews speak volumes: many note the consistency and flavor of the food, describing dishes like the brussels sprouts as “just delicious” and praising the freshness and quality of seafood dishes. The energetic ambiance, paired with generous portions, captures the essence of a laid-back but top-tier beachside meal. While some mention slightly higher prices typical for a tourist hotspot, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction, memorable flavors, and great hospitality.

Blue Moon Beach Grill is more than just a meal—it’s a joyful celebration of coastal cuisine in a spirited, welcoming setting. Whether you’re a seafood aficionado, craving a perfectly crafted sandwich, or looking to unwind with a signature cocktail, this is the spot where every visit feels like a special occasion, set against the backdrop of Nags Head’s charming beach culture.

Bit on the loud side but, it was Saturday lunch/dinner time. Wait was 45 minutes so, we opted to go to the bar instead, where there was no wait to be seated. Were served by the bartender, who was very friendly and efficient. Food was great, portions good but, price was bit on high side. Being that they're basically in a touristy town, we weren't surprised. I got fish & chips, wife got a salad and we both shared Oysters Rockefeller and had diet cokes, since we don't drink alcohol. Food arrived warm, oysters first then our dinners. Totaled @$50 with tip @$6

Walked in and was told it was a 2-2.5 hour wait ... that was a first. We decided to hang out around the bar and wait for somebody to leave. After about a 30 minute wait, our patience was rewarded. We ordered at the bar and decided to go with three appetizers and split a main course. The brussel sprouts were just delicious. There was a heaping portion and they were cooked perfectly. The Buffalo Shrimp were big and tasty ... I would have preferred a little more heat, but they were tasty. The Oysters Rockefeller were also, very good! We split the Seaside Bucatini. It had scallops, shrimp, artichokes, and grilled tomatoes in a pesto sauce. Really, really good! I think they could figure out a better system for seating, but its a tourist town. You can expect long waits. Can't wait to return to the Blue Moon Beach Grill!

The best food we have had in the Outer Banks. My husband and I were in town for a week, so it was convenient that we could snag seats at the bar. It was lively, but not distracting. The bartender (Alex) was great! Mussels - 10/10 Crab and Pimento Cheese Dip - 8/10 Beef Bulgogi (special) - 10/10 Crab cake - 8/10 ( wish it would have had more of a crust) Spinach and Arugula salad with Shrimp - 10/10 Will go back here every single time we visit the Outer Banks.

Everyday we drove by lunch time or dinner time, the parking lot was packed. We decided to visit for lunch. The fried calamari was very good & different, served with a lemon butter sauce underneath the crispy calamari. The oyster Rockefeller was also very good with large fresh oysters & fresh spinach covered with breadcrumbs, cheese & sauce. My salad with blackened shrimps was so good. I would order it again. Wife ordered the swordfish & grits with collard greens. Grits were on the sweet side with the Cajun honey sauce. Greens were cooked perfectly. 2 thumbs up!

There are many dining options in the Outer Banks area. This one stood out as we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes offered! They have a diverse menu, from land and sea to handhelds. The pricing does reflect that of higher end, but it's backed up with the well prepared entrees and presentation. Dining area give a casual and relaxed vibe. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Try visiting early, as peak hours tends to get fairly busy, and may have to wait awhile to get a table. Perfect place to dine for a special occasion, or just enjoy a flavorful meal.

Our second year visiting the new location... Great yard and patio/deck and very accommodating of our hounds! They'll even do a pup-burger or a chicken breast for your doggos. Excellent food and attentive service, be sure to check the specials (Wahoo Mac!) and don't miss the Mahi-BLT!

Courtney our waitress was excellent! As well as the food. Was the best seafood dinner we have ever had! And that is no exaggeration... We loved every bite and the mussels were amazing! Can't wait to come again! Everyone needs some Blue Moon more than once in a lifetime, Billy Myers
